Thunder Island Brewing Co. Code of Conduct

At Thunder Island Brewing Co, we proudly brew craft beer inspired by the love for outdoor adventures, with a nod to local history and a respect for all that the scenic Columbia River Gorge has to offer, while celebrating diversity and fostering an inclusive brewpub experience for all. 

Thunder Island is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race or religion. Our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion is supported by the policies and guidelines set forth in the Thunder Island Brewing Co Code of Conduct (the “Code”). The Code was issued effective September 1, 2021 and is amended periodically, as appropriate, to comply with changing laws and workplace dynamics. Thank you for making our space a welcoming place for all. 

The Code shall serve as a guideline as it relates to employees interacting with each other, employees interacting with vendors, employees interacting with customers, and customers interacting with each other. In our definition of employee, employees are any person who gets paid to work at Thunder Island Brewing Co, including all hourly, salaried, part-time and full-time persons, including company owners.

Unacceptable Behaviors

For the purposes of setting clear boundaries and expectations of behavior for all employees, vendors and customers that are on company property and/or at company-sponsored events, the following examples are considered unacceptable behaviors and inviolation of the Code: 

  • Belittling, or subtle expressions of bias 

  • Verbal, physical, or written abuse or assault 

  • Bullying, intimidation, or victimization 

  • Discrimination 

  • Inappropriate use of company property or assets 

  • Failure to comply with company values 

  • Illegal activity 

  • Harassment including:

    • Offensive comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, mental illness, neuro(a)typicality, physical appearance, body size, age, race, or religion. 

    • Unwelcome comments regarding a person’s lifestyle choices and practices, including those related to food, health, parenting, drugs, and employment. 

    • Deliberate misgendering or use of ‘dead’ or rejected names. 

    • Gratuitous or off-topic sexual images or behavior in spaces where they’re not appropriate. 

    • Physical contact and simulated physical contact (eg, textual descriptions like “*hug*” or “*backrub*”) without consent or after a request to stop. 

    • Threats of violence. 

    • Incitement of violence towards any individual, including encouraging a person to commit suicide or to engage in self-harm. 

    • Deliberate intimidation. 

    • Stalking or following. 

    • Harassing photography or recording, including logging online activity for harassment purposes. 

    • Sustained disruption of discussion. 

    • Unwelcome sexual attention. 

    • Pattern of inappropriate social contact, such as requesting/assuming inappropriate levels of intimacy with others 

    • Continued one-on-one communication after requests to cease. 

    • Deliberate “outing” of any aspect of a person’s identity without their consent except as necessary to protect vulnerable people from intentional abuse.

    • Publication of non-harassing private communication.

Violations of Code of Conduct

Thunder Island Brewing Co takes violations of the Code seriously, and we do not tolerate harassment of employees, customers or vendors. Employees, vendors or customers found to be in violation of the Code will be held accountable, and may be subject to consequences, including but not limited to the following:

  • Employees found to be in violation of the Code may receive a written warning, suspension, termination, or other consequences

  • Vendors found to be in violation of the Code may lead to review or termination of our relationship

  • Customers found to be in violation of the Code may be asked to leave company property and/or company-sponsored events, as we retain the right to refuse service. Furthermore, violators may be permanently banned from company property and/or events

Reporting Violations of Code of Conduct.

If you encounter what you believe to be a violation of this Code, and/or any other potential integrity concerns, including but not limited to violation of local laws or regulations, or unethical behavior, you may report your concerns by emailing info@thunderislandbrewing.com.

Retaliation of any kind against an individual who reports concerns in good faith violates Thunder Island’s principles and will not be tolerated.

Next Steps

Thunder Island Brewing Co is committed to continuing to look for ways to amend the Code as we learn to be a more inclusive and equitable workplace. Our current next steps include establishing an investigation process with a third-party to ensure that investigations into reported violations are conducted fairly and without bias. Lastly, we are committed to making the Code highly visible, accessible and public with our employees, vendors and customers by providing it on our website, in print form, and in our employee training materials.
